Update 7/9/24: Raise has now officially rebranded as GCX or The Gift Card Exchange. Despite rebranding, they’ve apparently decided to continue having Raise.com as their domain name, but also using gcx.raise.com as a subdomain. I’m still unsure what they’re trying to achieve:
GCX/The Gift Card Exchange ad marketing team: Hey, we’re this super-cool website where you can sell your unwanted gift cards or buy gift cards at a discount.
Potential customer: Cool. What’s your company called?
GCX/The Gift Card Exchange ad marketing team: GCX, also known as The Gift Card Exchange.
Potential customer: So is your website gcx.com or TheGiftCardExchange.com?
GCX/The Gift Card Exchange ad marketing team: Nope – it’s Raise.com
Potential customer: Why Raise.com if that’s not your name?
GCX/The Gift Card Exchange ad marketing team: It used to be our name, but now we’re GCX or The Gift Card Exchange. We can’t quite decide which one we like more, so we’ve gone with both.
Potential customer: Then why are you still using Raise.com?
GCX/The Gift Card Exchange ad marketing team: Because that used to be our name and website and we didn’t want to have to spend money on buying a domain name that actually matches our name. So we kept Raise.com, but you can go to gcx.raise.com if you want to because we wanted to make things a little more confusing for our customers.
Potential customer: I know of Raise and had bought from there before. You used to guarantee the gift cards you sell for a year after purchase. This rebranding hasn’t affected that right?
GCX/The Gift Card Exchange ad marketing team: Well…….

Update 4/17/24: Raise sent out an email today giving a little extra context about their rebranding. They’ve confirmed that they’re going to be called The Gift Card Exchange. I’ve also been advised that this change will relate to Raise the website; I’m not sure if the Raise Marketplace app (rather than Raise the app formerly known as Slide) will also be renamed that way, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.
This email update from Raise doesn’t do much to reduce confusion with their future name though. For starters, they’ll become GCX, but their full name – The Gift Card Exchange – would suggest the acronym should be TGCE.
What I’m more curious about is what their domain name will be. GCX.com is already taken, GiftCardExchange.com and TheGiftCardExchange.com are both for sale currently, so it doesn’t seem like they’ll be using one of those unless they’ve bought the domain name(s) already. The Whois details for those two domain names don’t indicate that’s the case though.
That raises the prospect that they’ll continue using the Raise.com domain name, but rename the site as GCX/The Gift Card Exchange. If that’s what they do, that’ll be even more laughable. I sort of doubt that’s what their plan is, but given their past efforts it also wouldn’t surprise me if that’s where things end up.
If this had appeared a couple of days ago I’d have thought this was an April Fools’ joke, but it’s not. Raise has decided that it needs to rebrand one part of itself yet again.
As a quick recap, a few years back Raise – the website and app that sold gift cards – launched Slide, an app that also sold gift cards. They changed how Slide worked a few times, going from offering 4% flat cashback to varying cashback rates, being able to earn additional cashback on purchases through a shopping portal and then not, etc.
Raise then seemed to decide that having an app branded as Slide didn’t make sense, so they rebranded it as Raise. Except it worked differently (in terms of the Raise Cash you’d earn) to the Raise website as well as to the Raise Marketplace app, also owned by Raise. You therefore had one company called Raise which had three different Raise-branded outlets that sold gift cards but in different ways.
Apparently that wasn’t confusing enough, so Raise Marketplace is soon going to become GCX. I’m assuming this refers to the Raise Marketplace app rather than the Raise website, but it’s hard to keep track of the different Raise options out there. There’s not currently any date provided for when that’ll happen, nor if this’ll presage any other changes beyond a simple rebranding. Clicking on the banner scrolling through on the Raise website homepage doesn’t do anything despite it seemingly being clickable.
While I can understand why they’d want to differentiate the names of two Raise-branded apps that both sell gift cards, this is a curious choice. For starters, I imagine that the Raise name has a lot of familiarity having been around for more than 10 years, so rebranding as GCX might confuse matters further.
An even more curious choice is deciding to rename their app with ‘X’ being a significant part of the branding. We’ve all seen how another site has gone down the Xitter over the past year, with that X rebranding initially having an impact on app downloads before its racist Nazi douchecanoe owner decided his already-negative impact hadn’t been sufficient and doubled tripled quadrupled down on the insanity. Raise is clearly (well, hopefully not) on that same path, but deciding that rebranding to include ‘X’ as a prominent part of your name makes for a winning option is a bit of a gamble.

And here I thought branding was so important to capitalism. Raise wants to disrupt their own brand. To create buzz? I can see how GCX is closer to the words “gift” and “cards” but of course they can’t be giftcardsx cause that’s too close to giftcards.com They worked so hard to plant the name Raise all these years, why throw that all away?!!?!?
Maybe they’re going for Gift Card eXchange
Made me think Gift Card Exchange
Except GCX already stands for something, namely Gamer Community Expo. Which if search for GCX right now thats all that comes up. It’s a dumb move unless they are staging for some kind of buyout/ipo
Raise mobile site shows this icon at the top with the GCX icon. Not sure how much that means, but could be a sign the app will be renamed too https://imgur.com/a/Xn1n4SQ
TIL the guy from GCG has both Trump Derangement Syndrome and Musk Derangement Syndrome. Assuming this isn’t a political website, why are you posting radical partisan political opinions here? This site is about gift cards, FFS! smdh
Thinking that Musk is racist and is – at best – a Nazi sympathizer – isn’t a political opinion. And please could you point me to any blog post I’ve published on here where I’ve mentioned Trump.
Thinking Musk is racist and a Nazi sympathizer is leftist political propaganda. Stick to posting about gift cards not delusional political opinions.
Thanks for your concern. I’ve been able to easily come by my own opinions of Musk by reading his own tweets though.
I don’t see the blatant racism with him that you do, but whatever. The far more important point is that he is championing free speech. Twitter was shadow banning, censoring and highly politically driven. Internal documents show proof of that. The reason most on the left hate Musk is because he has opened the platform back up too those with a conservative and/or constitutionalist viewpoints. That’s why lefties/Marxists hate him. Also do you feel as strongly about the anti-semetic Soros funded college protests going on right now?
That’s the laughable thing though – he’s not championing free speech. He’s championing speech that he agrees with and is trying to amplify that, while minimizing free speech for views opposite to his. For example, for people on Twitter who speak out against him, he throttles their reach. He’s also been happy to censor people in countries like India and China because that suits his business interests. He’s had journalist accounts suspended and/or closed, has tried suing organizations for speaking out truthfully, etc. He’s not the free speech absolutist he tries to claim he is.
With regards to the “anti-semetic Soros funded college protests”, I’m against any antisemitism that’s there, but am fine with students protesting Israel’s actions in Gaza if they want to.
The guy is not anywhere near conservative. To say that he is minimizing free speech for views opposite his would mean that he is trying to minimize the more conservative viewpoint. People speaking out against him has nothing to do with minimizing free speech that actually matters. Stifling things like the origin of the Covid virus and the incriminating laptop of Biden’s son has real impact. As for India and China every rich and powerful American on the planet is taking advantage of those countries- nothing unique to him.
I wonder did you have these opinions about Musk before he took over Twitter? My guess is I highly doubt it.
Against anti-Semitism but okay with these protests? Impossible to be both. Chanting death from the River to the Sea is anti-Semitic. If these protests were done in like manner involving Muslims, African Americans or Transgender people they would have been shut down before they started. You see things through blinders my friend.
You said that him censoring people in China and India based on requests from their government is nothing unique to him. That’s the thing though – he’s claiming that he’s a free speech absolutist and that he wants everyone to speak their mind. However, he censors people based on those governmental requests because it’ll affect his bottom line. That might make him no different to other rich people, but it does mean that he’s full of crap that he wants people to be able to have free speech.
Did I have these opinions about Musk before his takeover of Twitter? Yes. He seemed to start losing his mind during COVID, again seemingly because his bottom line was being affected. Since then, he seems to be doing his best to self-radicalize and has been losing his mind even more due to his widely reported drug abuse.
I was therefore disappointed when he took over Twitter, although I did find it kinda funny that he was forced to buy them due to a promise he made in a drug-addled state.
With regards to antisemitism and the protests, what I said is true. I’m against antisemitism, I’m against the “From the river to the sea” chant, I’m against anyone threatening and attacking Jewish students, etc. However, I have no problem if students want to protest the actions of Israel’s government.
You are spewing out accusations that have no real documentation of any sort. Drug usage? Forced to buy Twitter in drug related deal? Please cite the source for these. Please cite reliable sources that have factual information, that is not anonymous, that is not opinion, that is not conjecture, but actual facts that would prove this. You won’t because they don’t exist.
I don’t agree with Musk on 95% of his politics. I detest that he uses the CCP, like millions of other Americans to make money. I truthfully don’t trust him as far as I can throw him, but he has like him or not brought Twitter back to a platform where all political viewpoints are being heard. Your accusations of him being a Nazi and a drug addict are not based on factual information. You say you started not to like him around during the COVID pandemic seemingly because of his bottom line. Yet this was exactly the time that he began speaking out about COVID coverups, censoring of conservative viewpoints and other political viewpoints that leftists didn’t like.
Again, the protests. You say you are fine with them. Does that mean you think they are largely peaceful? Do you think that those who are partaking in them are not threatening violence against Jews? Do you think that the protests are solely focused on the actions of the Israeli Government l and include no hatred of Jews? Do you think that these protests would be allowed to continue if instead of Jews being targeted it were Muslims, Gays, African Americans, Transgender? Do a little digging beyond the surface.
You are justified in your position.
I am shocked to see you wrote this. You are a well known contributor in the Miles and Points community. Your comments on X and its owner sound unhinged. Nearly everyone I have talked to supports Musk championing free speech and being fair to all groups. I really can’t believe you made this comment publicly given your work. It’s a bad look for any company to associate with you. You should take time to rethink your position and realize your views have no place in a civilized society. I’m speechless.
If you don’t like the content, you can participate in another gift card forum that suits you. Or, you can start one yourself. It really is that simple.
Well, it’s not all pointless marketing department blather. There’s also a substantive negative change. The guarantee — the one thing that made them different from other sites — is being cut from 360 days to 90 days effective July 9, 2024. It’s like they are trying to destroy all brand value and customer goodwill.
Yep, just posted separately about that as I didn’t want it to get hidden away in this rebranding post.
They also changed their guarantee from 1 year to just 90 days .
