When redeeming the points earned for groceries, 100 points is worth $1. That means buying a $100 gift card earns you 500 points, so $5 off groceries which means this 5x offer is worth 5% off gift cards. While that’s not a great deal on all brands seeing as many restaurant gift cards can be bought at a larger discount, it’s a good rebate for high-value brands like Best Buy, Amazon, Home Depot and eBay.
Instead of groceries, you can redeem points for savings on gas. In that scenario, 100 points is worth 5c off per gallon of gas on up to 20 gallons. If you can fill your vehicle(s) to that 20 gallon limit, you’d be saving $1, so the same as redeeming for groceries. I’m a little surprised by that because usually gas redemptions on grocery loyalty programs are more generous than redeeming for groceries. In this case, it’s the same for both but only if you can refuel with the full 20 gallon limit. Otherwise you’d be losing out versus redeeming for groceries.
Price Chopper used to be more generous with gas points (10 cents instead of the measly 5 cents) they tried to “smooth it over” by offering the grocery option. I used to be able to get 20 gallons a week for 27 cents but with the change it’s hard worth the hassle.
