Update 5/21/24: This change went into force today and….it doesn’t appear to have gone smoothly. The email from Pepper Rewards stated that 100 points would equal $1, but what they’ve actually done in the app is something completely different. In fact, things seem to be off by a factor of 20 for redemptions. For example, someone commented below that they had to redeem 20,000 points for a $10 gift card, but based on Pepper’s email 20,000 points should get you a $200 gift card.
This week’s mission is also messed up, but by a factor of 10. They sent out an email stating that with some brands you’d earn 5,000 points when buying a $100 gift card. 5,000 points under the new setup is supposed to be worth $50 which seemed incorrect, so I emailed them. I heard back from my contact at Pepper that it’s set up correctly, but I don’t think they realize that 5,000 points is meant to be worth $50 based on what they communicated previously.
What was even more messed up was people’s points balances. My earnings showed that I had points worth almost $200,000, while others had significantly higher balances. A Google Play Store update has apparently fixed that on Android if you’ve updated it, while they’ve submitted an iOS update to the App Store for Apple devices.
I’m waiting to hear back from Pepper regarding my latest emails to them, so I’ll update this post later today once I know more. What a mess though.
Pepper Rewards sent out an email to users today advising that they’re going to be changing the value of Pepper points on May 20, 2024. While it might initially look like a devaluation, there’s no overall change as your existing points will be revalued at the new rate. In fact, this is a positive change as it’ll make it much easier to calculate how much your points are worth.
Previously, Pepper points were worth $0.25 each. That means if you had, say, 100 points, those were worth $25. Going forward, each point will be worth a penny, so in the future 100 points will be worth $1. That’s why it initially looks like there’ll be a huge devaluation when this change comes in.
However, the email from Pepper Rewards states:
Any points already on your account will increase to match the change.
That means that if you have 100 points on your account at the moment, on May 20 those should be bumped up to 2,500 points.
The reason this is a positive change is because you won’t have to do math anymore to work out how much your points are worth. If you have, say, 3,480 points at the moment, knowing that that’s worth $870 is annoying. From May 20, $870 will appear as 87,000 points – much easier to calculate as all you’ll have to do is add a decimal point two spaces in.
For their next trick, perhaps they will let us actually use the points. I have had repeated issues with points not applying to attempted purchases. And if they really want to please their customers, perhaps they will (i) allow us to redeem as many points as one wishes (instead of forcing you to do it in $5 multiples), and (ii) extend the point expiration date to something reasonable, like 12 months, instead of 6 weeks.
Are they also going to increase the # of coins they are awarded on June 15th? I’m referring to the targeted promotion where they are awarding extra coins until the end of this month. I believe they were doing double coins.
I’d assume that’ll be the case.
Either they added an extra 0 to the transition amount or the points aren’t going to be worth $.01. Something is very weird.
It seemed super-glitchy overnight, so I’m guessing that they’re still working on it.
So in this new system, a point is worth 1 cent? I’m a bit confused now because when I try to purchase a $100 gift card, the preview shows I would earn 10,000 points. Isn’t this 10% reward, not 5% like before? I’m not a new user so I don’t know why the system gives me 10% now.
They seem to have completely messed things up with this update, so what you’re seeing doesn’t seem to be correct. Based on what they sent out by email, a $100 gift card should – in theory – earn 500 points, not 10,000.
I just redeemed 20,000 points and that got a $10 card. 5000 points are now worth $2.50?!?! WTF
It looks like they’ve at least fixed the display of how much your coins are worth, even if your coins aren’t worth what they said still.
The weekly Mission says you’ll earn 5000 bonus points (worth $.01 presumably) for spending $100 on the specified cards. That’d be a 50% return which seems unlikely.
I just spent $10 in coins (some number of coins, I think around 25,000?) to buy a $10 GC and earned more coins, which I should not have…
I wrote pepper and they replied 100 points = $1. And 10,000 points = $5.
Weird gas lighting, extremely bad math, fly by the seat of their pants business practices. Definition of sketchy.
