Tips & Ideas
As with all these Pepper Rewards deals, you only earn some of the points now, with the remaining bonus points being awarded at a future date. Unfortunately the app doesn’t give you any way to easily track what you’re owed, so you’ll need to track that yourself to ensure they credit you the correct amount which is frustrating.
For deals where you earn bonus points rather than get an instant discount, make sure that the boosted rate is still showing in the app before each purchase you make. Popular deals often sell out quickly, so it would be a shame to buy at the standard earning rate. To check if it’s still available, tap the envelope icon in the middle of the menu bar at the bottom of the app and see if the deal is listed there. Sometimes it’ll sell out before Pepper Rewards actually sends out an email about the deal.
Seeing as with these deals you normally have to wait 2+ weeks to earn the bulk of the bonus points, be sure to evaluate your risk tolerance in case you don’t receive those payouts for one reason or another.
You can pay with an Amex Business Gold card to earn 4x Membership Rewards if this is one of your top two spending categories this billing period.
fair warning indeed.. Stephen, your early angry posts about Pepper playing slippery games have turned out to be more than prescient. If you like doing business on the micro-screens of your apps, then you’ll “love” not being able to see the fine print, “love” getting confused not knowing if you’re seeing an active deal, or merely read about it here (GCG) or your reseller, then presume it was still active, when it wasn’t!!!! (esp. as the same card, with the same base discount rate will still seem “in stock” — even as the deal for later “coins” may go out of stock )
On our transaction receipt, we get little idea, no confirmation if points pending later are actually coming, and when that might be. If one likes that kind of stress, uncertainty, then sure, what a deal! (sarcasm – if it works — at best) But wow, what a flagrantly deceptive, disruptive, high stress, unethical way to do business.
New players, BE WARNED. You need detailed, meticulous records! (even then, expect mistakes to be made, frequently, that you will lose…. a LOT if you’re not paying attention ….. and your already wildly over-loaded spread sheet will likely be of little help — w/o investing a LOT of time)
Shame too on gift card resellers who haven’t been passing along these serious fair warnings. (No skin off their hides — they’re dealing only with what you resell to them and laughing at your mistaken misunderstandings — at best.) Guess they’re all expecting Pepper to “go” away.
