Tips & Ideas
As with all these Pepper Rewards deals, you only earn some of the points now, with the remaining bonus points being awarded at a future date. Unfortunately the app doesn’t give you any way to easily track what you’re owed, so you’ll need to track that yourself to ensure they credit you the correct amount which is frustrating.
For deals where you earn bonus points rather than get an instant discount, make sure that the boosted rate is still showing in the app before each purchase you make. Popular deals often sell out quickly, so it would be a shame to buy at the standard earning rate. To check if it’s still available, tap the envelope icon in the middle of the menu bar at the bottom of the app and see if the deal is listed there. Sometimes it’ll sell out before Pepper Rewards actually sends out an email about the deal.
Seeing as with these deals you normally have to wait 2+ weeks to earn the bulk of the bonus points, be sure to evaluate your risk tolerance in case you don’t receive those payouts for one reason or another.
You can pay with an Amex Business Gold card to earn 4x Membership Rewards if this is one of your top two spending categories this billing period.
What is the limit to the total you can spend and get doubled during the first 15 days as part of the referral bonus for new members?
I’m even more confused…. So I go to purchase a $200 Petco card, from the “deals envelope” (vague as hell right there)…. It’s says its still a 20x Points deal. But then just before I click “buy gift card,” it says, “earn 32,000” points, without being at all clear if this is to be earned immediately or later. If that’s immediately, how much exactly is 32,000 points worth. And how much am I to expect some september mornin’?
And will anything of this be spelled out on the receipt? Yah, right now, I don’t trust pepper in the least, and while I appreciate the alert, you’re not helping, save to warn us to be careful.
and backing up a step, just what does 20X mean? 20x times what? the standard rate (which is what, btw?), or 20%….. (I gather the latter as best reseller rates are…. to buy at 20% off list price. Coincidence?) Did you post a guide somewhere here or at Frequent Miler to reminds us what the current rates and coin whatever are supposed to mean? so if 32,000 points is only worth a mere $6.20 towards the 20% off $200, does that mean the remaining amount to post someday will be $33.80 worth of points….. Anybody able to ‘splain any of this … in plain english? (or Persian)
Pepper Rewards changed its earning structure recently, so 1x earnings is now 1% back, but that comes in the form of 20 coins per 1%. As a result, a 20x deal is worth 20% back, so if you buy a $200 gift card with a 20% deal, you’d earn 80,000 points.
You initially earn a certain amount, then the rest is – in theory – credited to your account a couple of weeks later. Based on what you wrote above, you’ll earn 32,000 points now (i.e. 8% back now), then the remaining 48,000 points (i.e. 12%) will be credited on September 2.
It really is dumb how they’ve set up the earning structure as it’s so much more convoluted and customer-unfriendly than it needs to be.
I’ve never had Pepper reply to a single CS inquiry case I’ve made. I wouldn’t touch these creeps with a ten foot pole. Classic pyramid scheme structure.
