This is always a good deal as it’s usually possible to make a profit when reselling some of the brands that Meijer doesn’t exclude. It’s a shame that Amazon is excluded, but other high value cards are eligible, such as Best Buy, eBay and Home Depot.

If you aren’t familiar with how this deal works, the $5 isn’t an instant discount. Instead, it gets loaded to your mPerks card and provides a discount off your next shopping trip. If you purchase gift cards as soon as you get to Meijer, the rewards will sometimes be available by the time you check out if you do a grocery shop after that, although it does say to allow two hours before the reward is available. I think Meijer sends an email once it’s loaded to your account, so that can help you know once it’s loaded.

The good thing is that you can buy one $500 gift card and you’ll still earn $50 in rewards, rather than having to buy separate $50 gift cards which makes it more of a hassle when redeeming or reselling them.

None of the cards with 5% categories have grocery stores as one of the options this quarter, so just pay with whichever card offers the best return on grocery store spend.
