Tips & Ideas
This is a fantastic offer because Marriott cards already earn 2x points per dollar as standard, so this offer makes it 8x on up to $3,500 of spend.
Discover It cards are offering 5% at these exact same retailers this quarter, although Discover’s offer is more restrictive as it’s only valid on the Target and Walmart websites, whereas this Amex Offer is valid on in-store purchases too.
If you’re planning on buying gift cards with this offer, that’s certainly a risk seeing as Amex clawed back points on Hilton and Delta cards earlier this year during their temporary grocery bonuses. However, those were uncapped bonus points, whereas the $3,500 cap with this Amex Offer might mean that’s the level at which they’re comfortable with people earning bonus points on gift card spend, but do so in the knowledge that you might not see any points at all.
