This is a targeted offer and is only valid on fuel points earned during May, so it’s not possible to take advantage of the offer with fuel points earned during the current 4x promotion.
If you earned your May fuel points by buying gift cards at the standard 2x rate, this is like saving 1.5% on groceries. If they were earned at 4x, it’s like saving 3% on groceries. You can normally redeem fuel points for up to 7% off when earned at 2x or up to 14% off when earned at 4x. Gas savings therefore offer better savings if you can make use of them, but if your account is loaded up with fuel points that you can’t redeem on gas, this is a great way to make use of them.
While it’s disappointing that this is targeted, it’s hopefully Kroger testing the water for making fuel points redeemable on groceries in the future. Most other large chains – Safeway/Albertsons/Just For U, Giant Eagle, Giant/Martin’s/Stop & Shop, etc. – provide the opportunity to use points on grocery savings, so if Kroger is stepping up then that’s an awesome development.
