This is a decent offer because the $10 discount more than offsets the purchase fee when buying variable load Visa and Mastercard gift cards, making this a profitable deal.
However, it could potentially be significantly more profitable than that. When Hy-Vee has run this deal in the past, they’ve given $10 off for every $150 you spend, not just $10 off per $150+ transaction. That means buying a $500 Visa or Mastercard gift card gives you a $30 discount – not $10. That’s ridiculously generous seeing as there’s seemingly no limit on how many times you can do this deal other than how many variable load cards your store has and/or if you raise suspicions by buying so many cards!
I don’t know if that’s how this deal will work this year though, but hopefully they’re still being (inadvertently) generous.
