MyGiftCardsPlus announced a partnership today with Upromise, allowing you to earn cashback with that portal when buying gift cards from MyGiftCardsPlus rather than earning Swagbucks which is how it’s always worked in the past.
It turns out that it’s not only Upromise. I mentioned in this post that a company called Prodege owns MyGiftCardsPlus, Upromise and Swagbucks. I already knew that they owned several other sites and apps, but hadn’t realized they were joining Upromise in becoming eligible places for your cashback to be added from MyGiftCardsPlus purchases.
I explained in that other post why I thought it made sense to leave your account set to earn Swagbucks as you can sometimes redeem your earnings for greater value due to Swagbucks offering discounted gift cards at times. In case you’d like to change your settings to Upromise or one of the other eligible portals – MyPoints, InboxDollars or ShopAtHome – here’s how to do it.
All you need to do is go to the Account Settings section of your MyGiftCardsPlus account. Scroll down to the ‘Reward Currency’ section and select the alternative portal by clicking ‘Set as Default Currency’. The nice thing is that it looks like you can switch your default currency as many times as you like.
What’s a little strange is that it doesn’t prompt you to enter your account details with the other portal. If the email address on your MyGiftCardsPlus account is different to the one on the account for whichever other default currency you selected, I’m not sure what happens to your cashback.
Update: The first time you check out with MyGiftCardsPlus after changing your earnings currency you’ll be prompted to link your accounts before the transaction completes.
It was a straightforward process linking the accounts. Even though Upromise wouldn’t let me log in earlier, it accepted my email and password and now my accounts are linked.
