Tips & Ideas
Provided I’m doing the math correctly, this deal is very interesting if you can liquidate Vanilla Visa gift cards easily.
Buying a $500 Visa gift card will earn you 10,000 Speedy Rewards points. Those points are worth $8-$12 depending on how you redeem the points which more than offsets the activation fee. Add in the rewards earned by paying with a card that earns more at gas stations and the fact that there’s seemingly no limit on how many of these you can buy throughout November and you have the makings for a very rewarding month of visits to Speedway gas stations.
To view this offer, open the Speedway app, tap on the ‘Speedy Deals’ box on the home screen and then ‘Food & Merchandise Offers’.
Update: I thought that I’d seen variable load Vanilla Visa gift cards at Speedway before, but I might be misremembering based on comments below and elsewhere. If the maximum load per card is $100 or $200 that makes the deal less enticing, but might still be worth it depending on what you’d earn in bonused spend on your credit card.
Does speedway sell $500 VGCs anymore? I thought they only go up to $200, or at least that’s what mine has had for the past several years.
I thought that I’d seen variable load cards fairly recently, but I might be misremembering.
Yeah, I have to correct myself as I remember now that the OneVanilla cards actually do max out at $200, not $500. Larry is correct. I think the fee is $5.95, though. So, that is better than the typical $6.95 you would see on a $200 Vanilla card.
On the Vanilla front, they carry $25, $50 and $100 with the standard activation fees.
I believe the only Vanilla cards they have go up to $100 for $105.95. The cards they sell that go up to $500 are OneVanilla. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that is the case. So, heads up.
Vanila GC cannot be liquidated at Walmart. That makes this deal less appealing
