Tips & Ideas
20% cashback is great for personal use and some of these will also be of interest for gift card resellers. Note that the offer expiry date seems to be July 11; it’s listed as July 12 in the app, but the terms go on to say that only transactions from July 5-11 are eligible.
The terms also exclude gift cards, but I don’t think that’s something Google Pay has enforced in the past. Having said that, in some cases online gift card purchases won’t track because payment is processed by a third party like CashStar rather than the retailer themselves.
There are some potential use cases for buying gift cards though. H&M and Maurices in-store should work, as should Shoes.com and Maurices online. Even better, some of these will stack with other savings opportunities. For example, there’s an H&M Amex Offer giving 10% back on up to $100 of spend which can also be stacked with 6% cashback from Dosh; with Dosh, note that you have to activate the higher 6% rate in the app, otherwise you’ll only get 1%.
I think there’s a Maurices Amex Offer too, although I can’t remember if that’s online-only or valid for both in-store and online transactions. It looks like Maurices processes online gift card purchases themselves, so you should be able to do both in-store and online offers for them seeing as they’re separate 20% offers. Dosh also offers 15% cashback for in-store Maurices purchases.
Be sure not to link your card for in-store offers with Rakuten and SimplyMiles. That’s because Google Pay, Rakuten and SimplyMiles all use RCLON (Rakuten Card-Linked Offer Network) for tracking these transactions, so using one of those other programs might mean you don’t get the 20% cashback from Google Pay which is far superior to what those other programs are offering right now.
