Tips & Ideas
An important thing to note with this offer is that it specifically mentions that gift card purchases are excluded. I’m not convinced that’ll be enforced, but it’s something to be aware of.
20% cashback on Banana Republic (and, by extension, Gap family of brands) gift cards is a decent discount, but you can stack the offer for an even better deal using the following card-linked offers:
- 5% cashback with Payce with a limit of $5 cashback per month.
- 1x Perk Point per dollar (i.e. 0.1%) with Bitmo when paying with a card you’ve linked via Plaid in the app.
- Shopping portals run by Collinson which have Banana Republic as part of their in-store offers (JetBlue, Choice, Caesars and Emirates).
To use this offer in the Google Pay app in the first place, you have to ensure at least one payment card is enrolled in the app, then you need to activate this Banana Republic offer.
One thing that’s not clear with this deal is if there’s a limit on how much cashback you can earn. I’d imagine there’s not unlimited cashback available for one transaction, but they unfortunately haven’t stated what that limit is.
If they aren’t stating an amount in their T&Cs, then take a screenshot and hold them to it. The problem is, you can’t do this if you’re buying gift cards, because they can easily ask you for the receipt and you’ll be instantly denied any cashback.
