3x Gas Rewards Points for Visa gift cards can be a great deal. I’m not sure if you earn the 3x on the activation fees as well or only the value loaded to the VGC itself. If it’s the latter, buying a $500 card means you’ll earn 1,500 Gas Rewards Points which can be used to save $1.50 on up to 20 gallons. That means you can save up to $30 on gas which far outweighs the $5.95 activation fee and any liquidation costs.
5x on Lowe’s gift cards is OK, but not spectacular seeing as the most you can save on gas will be 10% with that deal.
