Tips & Ideas
This deal is definitely available for Happy gift cards both in-store and online as it’s included in their weekly ad.
The other gift card brands listed above might only earn 2x Fuelperks+ when ordering them online. That’s because they can be found on the promo landing page, but weren’t listed in the weekly ad.
2x Fuelperks+ is a pretty good return, especially seeing as they can now be redeemed for either groceries or fuel. The best option depends on what you’d be spending on both the gift cards in the first place and subsequently your grocery or fuel spend. Here’s how Fuelperks+ can be redeemed:
Let’s say you spend $250 on gift cards listed above. That’d earn you 500 Fuelperks+ which could in turn be used to save either 20% on groceries or $1 off per gallon on up to 30 gallons. If you spent $150 on groceries or filled up with 30 gallons, you’d be saving $30 in either scenario, so 12% on your initial $250 spend on gift cards. If you spent more on groceries, your savings would be greater, while if you filled your tank with fewer than 30 gallons then your savings would be lower.
Savings of ~12% could make this profitable if buying some Happy gift card brands. That’s because some brands can be used to buy other third party gift cards at Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond and Buy Buy Baby. Check out our guide to Happy gift cards for more about how that works.
Grocery stores are one of this quarter’s 5% categories on the Chase Freedom card, so that or 4x Membership Rewards on the Amex Gold card would be a good option when it comes to payment in-store. I’m not sure if Giant Eagle or a third party processes the online orders; if the latter, that’d likely mean online purchases wouldn’t code as grocery store purchases and so wouldn’t earn a category bonus.
