Giant Eagle recently changed their scheme from Fuelperks! to Fuelperks+. That’s because you now have the option to choose between using your points to save money on fuel or groceries. For those that don’t drive much, that can be a great addition.
The option providing the best savings for you will depend on your grocery store spend and the size of your gas tank. As an example, let’s say you bought a $100 Taco Bell gift card, thereby earning 150 Fuelperks+ with this promotion. You’d have the option to use those to either take 6% off your grocery bill or 30c off per gallon on up to 30 gallons.
On a $100 grocery shop you’d save $6, while filling up with 30 gallons would save you $9. That would make using the points towards fuel the best option.
On the other hand, let’s say you spent $200 on groceries and only fill up with 15 gallons. Your grocery savings would be $12, whereas your fuel savings would only be $4.50. In that instance, it obviously makes more sense to take the $12 savings on your groceries.
These savings aren’t phenomenal, but there are also very few discounted Taco Bell gift cards being sold on Raise, so this might be worth it for personal use if you have a Giant Eagle store near you. In theory you can use other avenues like the Staples and Lowe’s Amex Offers to save 10%, but those are probably better used for brands like Amazon gift cards.
