Giant Eagle recently changed their scheme from Fuelperks! to Fuelperks+. That’s because you now have the option to choose between using your points to save money on fuel or groceries. For those that don’t drive much, that can be a great addition.
The option providing the best savings for you will depend on your grocery store spend and the size of your gas tank. As an example, let’s say you bought a $200 Home Depot gift card, thereby earning 300 Fuelperks+ with this promotion. You’d have the option to use those to either take 12% off your grocery bill or 60c off per gallon on up to 30 gallons.
On a $100 grocery shop you’d save $12, while filling up with 30 gallons would save you $18. That would make using the points towards fuel the best option.
On the other hand, let’s say you spent $200 on groceries and only fill up with 15 gallons. Your grocery savings would be $24, whereas your fuel savings would only be $9. In that instance, it obviously makes more sense to take the 12% off groceries.
This deal therefore has the potential for being profitable for reselling, although that’ll depend on the Home Depot resale rates available to you and the size of your grocery shop or fuel tank.
