Giant Eagle ran this same deal a couple of weeks ago, so the assessment is the same as then. You’ll get the most value out of this if you spend a large amount on groceries, while using the Fuelperks+ towards gas could also be a pretty good deal.
For example, let’s say you bought $100 of Home Depot gift cards. That’d mean you’d earn 150 Fuelperks+ which can be redeemed for either 6% off your next grocery shop or 30c off per gallon on up to 30 gallons. If you were to redeem the Fuelperks+ when spending $100 on groceries, you’d only be saving 6% based on your original purchase of Home Depot gift cards – OK, but not spectacular. The real value comes from spending much more on groceries. For example, spending $200 on groceries would mean you’d be saving 12%. That’s obviously far better and could make this a profitable option when reselling.
If you were to redeem your Fuelperks+ when filling up with gas, filling your vehicle(s) to the 30 gallon limit would save you $9. That’s effectively 9% off your original purchase price, so it might still be worth it for reselling when also taking into account your credit card rewards for grocery store spend. If you fill up with less than 30 gallons though, your savings would be lower.
That means that if you can fill up with 30 gallons, you’d need to spend more than $150 on groceries to make redeeming your Fuelperks+ on groceries a better choice.
