The Deal

• There are two versions of a gas station Amex Offer on Marriott Bonvoy cards:
  • Business cards
    • Earn 6x bonus points on up to $7,500 of spend at gas stations
  • Personal cards
    • Earn 8x bonus points on up to $7,500 of spend at gas stations

• Expires October 31, 2020.
• You will receive 8 additional points for each dollar spent from the time you enroll and through 10/31/2020 on eligible purchases of gasoline at gas stations located in the U.S. (superstores, supermarkets and warehouse clubs that sell gasoline are not considered gas stations), on up to $7,500 in total eligible purchases with your enrolled Card.
• Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, cash advances, purchases of traveler’s checks, person-to-person payments, the purchase or reloading of prepaid cards, and purchases of other cash equivalents.
• Points received from this offer will be posted to your Marriott Bonvoy member account up to 12 weeks after the end of each month.
• To be eligible to receive points, Card Member’s account must not be cancelled or in default at the time of fulfillment.

Tips & Ideas

These bonus points mean you’ll earn a total of 10x Marriott Bonvoy points on up to $7,500 of spend at gas stations. That’s because Amex Marriott personal cards earn 2x at gas stations and their business card earns 4x.

In theory, you can buy gift cards at gas stations like Speedway to take advantage of these bonus points offers. However, it’s likely that Amex will claw back gift card purchases given the experience with similar bonus point offers for grocery stores. With a generous limit of $7,500, it feels like Amex is doing the credit card point version of entrapment.

If you have Chase Marriott cards, you’d be safer putting spend on those cards if you’re able to register for their 10x offer instead.
