This appears to be a targeted offer seeing as you have to click the activation link in the email and my wife received an email whereas I didn’t. Having said that, the offer has apparently been running for 8 days, so it might be that everyone will be targeted but that they’re just taking their time sending out the activation emails.
Seeing as any purchase from Walmart.com will earn the $5 statement credit, it should be possible to buy a $50 gift card to get 10% back as a statement credit. That should therefore work for Walmart gift cards along with the plethora of third party gift cards they sell online. Walmart also sells Visa and Mastercard gift cards online, so this will help offset the activation fee on one of those.
