Tips & Ideas
Update 5/25/22: Late last year (as you can see in the first update below), Blackhawk Network added Choice gift card brands to the Happy Cards website. That meant Home Depot gift cards could be bought for 6% off by buying the Choice Cheers To You! brand.
Since then they’ve added the ability to purchase Giving Good gift cards from the site too because previously it just directed you to buy them from GiftCardMall. That’s great news because a few months ago the Giving Good St Jude Children’s Research Hospital brand added Best Buy as an eligible retailer. That means you can buy those Giving Good gift cards for 6% off and redeem for Best Buy gift cards. While Best Buy resale rates aren’t great at the moment, being able to save 6% on up to $5,000 of cards per order will be useful for some people.

Update 12/27/21: When publishing this post back in July 2021, this offer was only valid on Happy gift card brands because other varieties like Choice and Thanks Teacher redirected to GiftCardMall where the promo code didn’t work. At some point since then, they’ve started selling Choice cards on the HappyCards.com website which is great because it means you can buy Cheers To You! gift cards at a 6% discount and convert to Home Depot.
Here’s the rest of the original post.

There was previously a Capital One Spring deal giving 6% or 7% off Happy gift cards, but there was a catch with that one – you had to set up a corporate account with Blackhawk Network and you couldn’t pay with a credit card. This offer is better because your order goes via HappyCards.com which is the customer-facing website rather than a corporate one and you can pay for your order(s) with a credit card.
Capital One Spring gives you a (presumably) unique promo code to use when checking out. The code is good on the entire order, with the only limit seemingly being the maximum of 10 gift cards per Happy or Choice brand per order. You can, in theory, add 10 of every Happy and Choice gift card brand if you wanted to get $300 off each set of $5,000 worth of gift cards, but it’s highly unlikely they’d process an order that large. As it is, even ordering $5,000 of gift cards for $4,700 could get auto-cancelled seeing as they auto-cancelled my $100 order in the past when trying to use the Amex Offer.
This will therefore stack nicely with the Happy Cards Amex Offer if you’ve not used that yet, but note that the discount means you’ll have to order more than $100 worth of face value gift cards, otherwise your Amex card won’t be charged the $100+ which is needed to trigger the statement credit.
Note that you don’t have to have a Capital One card in order to have a Capital One Spring account. Spring is aimed at businesses but it’s completely free to open an account with them.
I’m not sure if the promo code can be used more than once, but if you have access to more than one Spring account then that can help you get more than one order in.
Also note that this offer is only valid on Happy gift card brands. Blackhawk Network has a number of other Happy-esque brands like Giving Good, Choice, Thanks Teacher, etc. Details for those can be found on HappyCards.com, but the site links to GiftCardMall to buy them there and the promo code doesn’t work on GiftCardMall – only HappyCards.com.
Do you know if I can use another portal and the code from this promo?
There aren’t any portals that work for HappyCards.com. Cashback Monitor lists Simply Best Coupons, but that’s for Happy gift cards from GiftCardMall rather than HappyCards.com.
Thanks. Do you know how long this will last? I dont see expiration of this 6% promo listed.
I’m not sure unfortunately. Capital One Spring deals often seem to last several months, but there’s no guarantee on that.
ok ty.
retracted.
Thanks for mentioning this offer. I rarely check Spring.
Bought a Cheers to You GC for $100.01 with $106.39 value. Used my Amex Card ($15 off $100). Total purchase price after offer tracks: $85.01. Got $56.39 in Home Depot and $50 in GameStop (converted to Instacart GC on the GameStop website).
After doing it once I continue to get new codes but they don’t work, at least not on the same card that I already purchased. Error message “promotion code is not available for this deal”.
