In early 2021, Bitmo launched a new feature in their app which rewarded you with one Perk Point per dollar spent using a linked card at a large array of retailers. Even though 1x Perk Point is only worth 0.1cpp, purchases track automatically and work when buying gift cards at any eligible retailer.
If you’ve opened the Bitmo app in the last week or two, you’ll have been greeted with a full-screen pop-up letting you know about a new aspect to their card-linked program. It’s easy to just close that pop-up without paying attention to what it says, so I wanted to highlight this negative development.
In the past, all tracked transactions were automatically added to your Perk Points balance. Not any more. Transactions will still track, but in order for the points to be added to your account you have to tap on the ‘Activity’ tab and actively claim every single tracked transaction. That’s disappointing because there’s no reason for Bitmo to implement this change other than to hope that there’ll be breakage by app users not claiming their points. I forget how long the message said you have to claim the points, but I imagine for occasional app users it’ll be easy to overlook that they need to claim points and will therefore miss out on points earned from their card-linked spend.
This might be worse than I originally thought. I just communicated with Bitmo support and it seems they’re using the new “claim points” process to deny referral bonuses.
Whereas previously you’d earn a referral bonus if your referral made 1 purchase within 14 days with a linked card, now it seems your referrals must make 5 purchases within 30 days AND claim the corresponding perks points.
Be aware that if your referral’s perk points aren’t claimed, you might not receive the referral bonus.
