Judging by the general wording of this offer, I’m assuming that you’ll earn 6x on all gift cards rather than the brands pictured in the ad. That’s still not a great offer though seeing as 6x is only worth 3% off.
There might be an interesting play here though. With past promotions (e.g. here and here), they specifically excluded Visa, Mastercard and American Express gift cards from being eligible to earn points. That wording isn’t listed on this particular ad, so it might be possible to earn 3% back on those. If so, 3% goes from being a poor deal to a great deal, especially when paying with a card that earns more at grocery stores. For example, the Chase Freedom card has just started offering 5% this quarter.
Before going all-in on that though, do a test purchase to see if you earn the 6x points on VGCs or MGCs.
Hi, Stephen. First time commenting, but I’ve followed since starting in Sept. You won’t earn points on prepaid cards (Vanilla Visas, Visa gift cards), but you do earn points on all merchant gift cards. I believe that’s what this current deal will be. And the kicker is that you can (as long as the cashier doesn’t stop you) apply those earned store points to purchasing prepaid cards. It isn’t hard coded in the system. So you can effectively knock off activation fees.
Thanks for the insight! I think I’ve only ever shopped at Winn-Dixie once, so I’m clueless about how their program works.
