Tips & Ideas
This is a fantastic offer which they also ran a couple of years ago. You earn 5x bonus miles on top of the miles you’d earn for any SimplyMiles offers you activate and subsequently redeem when paying with a Mastercard linked in the program.
For example, my wife and I each currently have an offer for 1,500 bonus miles when spending $200 at Best Buy. With this 5x offer we’d earn that original 1,500 bonus miles and then an additional 7,500 bonus miles for a total of 9,000 miles. That’s because the 5x is on top of the original earnings, so it’s effectively a 6x promo. Some people have an offer as high as 2,500 bonus miles for Best Buy, so they’d earn 15,000 miles when spending $200. That’s a 75x return which is nuts.
Unfortunately SimplyMiles hasn’t been particularly clear with the terms of the offer. For example, the text on the website says you’ll earn 5x on every purchase with participating merchants on SimplyMiles. Does that mean that only some merchants on SimplyMiles are participating in this offer, or does it mean that all merchants on the website are eligible for the offer because they’re all participating in the SimplyMiles program?
The wording also states that you’ll earn 5x on every purchase, but some emails sent to members state that the offer can be redeemed up to three times. That same email says the offer ends on December 31, but the website says December 27. However, I think that the email’s reference to the limit of three and expiry date of December 31 refer to the SimplyMiles offer for Target as that particular deal is highlighted separately in the email. That deal does indeed have a limit of three and an expiry date of December 31, so I’m fairly confident that this new 5x promo ends on December 27 and can be redeemed an unlimited number of times, subject to the availability of bonus miles.
Update: Something important to note is that SimplyMiles runs on RCLON (Rakuten Card-Linked Offer Network). That means you can’t stack SimplyMiles offers with Rakuten’s in-store offers. That could be pertinent with this 5x deal because Rakuten is running its own 5%/5x deal at select retailers right now which includes Best Buy. It’d therefore be best to take advantage of the SimplyMiles offer for Best Buy with a Mastercard and the Rakuten deal with an Amex or Visa card, or with a Mastercard you’ve not linked to SimplyMiles.

Any have DPs on double dip AA simplymiles with chase offer, citi offer, etc?
If you have Citi Offers or Chase Offers on Mastercards, those will definitely stack because they’re a different type of card-linked offer.
Thanks for the Hat Tip Stephen! A couple super interesting possibilities for the not-so-faint-of-heart:
Identity Guard 4500 + 22500 bonus = 27,000 AA miles for $159.99 annual subscription, COMBINE with targeted Citi Merchant offer for $100 off the $159.99 plan for 27k miles for $60 — no guarantees this will stack, as they’re both card-linked offers.
Conservation International Donation 40 miles per dollar (PLUS 200 miles per dollar???) = 240 miles per dollar ($0.00417 cents per AA mile) – if this works it’s an absolute steal on AA miles, while also helping a good cause.
And some much lower-risk opportunities in addition to the Best Buy deal Stephen mentioned:
Vinesse wine subscription 2500 + 12500 bonus = 15,000 miles for a $41+ purchase, seems to be a no-brainer if your household hasn’t had this before. Read the terms of every offer to have firm ground to stand on if anything doesn’t credit!
CVS 1500 + 7500 bonus = 9,000 miles for $45+ purchase.
Happy shopping everyone!
the cvs offer is 1500 points for 45+ purchase for you?
Yes, but all offers may vary between accounts.
Rolling the dice on the Troy’s suggestions. Plus Barnes spend $30+ get 450 miles plus 5x. They have a $50 + $5 egift promotion, so hopefully that tracks as well.
I haven’t used SimplyMiles before…do certain high denomination CVS purchases beginning with the letter “V” tend to earn miles? Feel free to PM me on FT if necessary (same handle).
That should work, although I think there’s an exclusion for them and so if it doesn’t track then you wouldn’t be able to make a successful claim.
Thanks Stephen
Conservation International should be eligible for the $300 above the line tax deduction too.($600 MFJ) No need to itemize tax deductions. They will probably spam you though going forward?
Ho, ho, ho! so many jolly good ideas and tips in this thread. 🙂
The cheapest Identity Guard that I found was for $199.99 for an individual for the Total policy. How to get to $159.99?
It was 159.99 for me earlier today, perhaps use a different browser
What amounts did you have? I see $7.50, $16.67 and $25/month for an individual.
great ideas, ty. Re. “rolling the dice,” did notice in t&c for several (like BB), this: “Not valid for gift card, e-gift card, or corporate gift card purchases.” (eh?)
(from earlier gcg post, answer would be should work, but: “The only exception will be Best Buy eGift cards because payment for those is processed by CashStar.”)
Is this a targeted offer or open to everybody? Also, do you remember how long it takes to see if the offer has tracked?
I’m assuming it’s open to everyone – does it show up when logging in to SimplyMiles? I’m not sure how quickly it tracks – my purchase from earlier today isn’t showing yet.
Stephen, another question, is it possible to use the Point debit card to purchase Amazon gift cards from Best Buy in order to lock in both the 5 times points’ deal and the SimplyMiles deal?
Sorry that I input your name – it’s Sophie here.
Yes, that should be possible – I’m planning on doing something similar on my wife’s account.
Yes, I will try that too, planning to order some gift cards online and pick up at the store. I will update my DP if tracked or untracked.
An update – I used the Point mastercard (when it was still a mastercard) to purchase 2 * $100 Amazon gift cards in one Best Buy transaction around mid December. I didn’t realize Best Buy split payments and processed each Amazon gift card separately, given possibly that each gift card has different serial numbers.
The Point app was having some issue with showing one of the two split payments processed by Best Buy for quite a while. As of now I only got points for one split payment of $100. The customer support let me know the transaction should show up in December statement, however. I think very likely I need to chat them again regarding the missing points.
The miles are shown in my AA account. Maybe due to the split payment, I got 2 * 2500 miles + 5 * 2500 bonus miles. Now I have more trust with SimplyMiles.

I don’t know why, but Rakuten will not let me login or create a new account. I get a message ‘oops something went wrong. Try again.” I tried on both Chrome and Firefox.
Also, clicking on your Direct Link to Offer gives me a page Acces Denied and that I don’t have permission.
I activated the Best Buy offers first in SimplyMiles and then in Rakuten before going to Best Buy. I made a purchase there using my Citi Premier card that had been added in both programs. The points are already tracking in Rakuten, which means I won’t be getting points from the SimplyMiles offer.
So does this mean that I can still use my Citi Premier card at Best Buy again for the SimplyMiles offer (given SimplyMiles offers are one-time for each card)? I thought this would make sense but wanted to confirm if anyone has experience. Thanks!
