Tips & Ideas
This is a targeted deal and unfortunately neither my wife nor I were targeted for this offer. It might be possible to get yourself targeted though – more about that in a moment.
For those of you that are immediately targeted though, congratulations! If you don’t have $250 of stuff you need from Amazon, you can buy third party gift cards in order to lock in the 20% discount. It doesn’t work on Amazon gift cards, but all other gift cards should work. Here’s a link to the gift card landing page on Amazon (our affiliate link).
When checking out, be sure to only use 1 Membership Rewards point as using more than that is poor value.
How To (Possibly) Get Yourself Targeted
Amazon ran a similar deal last year, except that time it gave a discount of 20% on up to $500 worth of stuff rather than $250. Neither my wife nor I were targeted for that deal either, but we were able to -eventually – get ourselves targeted. I’ve tried doing the same thing again, but it took a few days to work last time, so I’m not sure if it’s working again in the same way.
Here’s what worked last time:
Step 1
Delete all your Membership Rewards-earning accounts from your Payment Options. Click on all applicable cards, then click ‘Remove’.
Step 2
Add your Membership Rewards-earning card(s) back as a payment option.
Step 3
Re-enroll in Shop With Points here (our affiliate link). Click on the ‘Get Started’ button, make sure that the ‘Apply By Default’ radio button is set to ‘Off’ rather than ‘On’, then click ‘Enroll’.
Step 4
Try re-registering for the offer (our affiliate link).
Step 5
If Step 4 didn’t work, try again the next day, then the next, etc.

With last year’s deal, I kept trying and trying to register but had no success. I deleted my Membership Rewards cards, added one back on, re-enrolled in Shop With Points and tried re-registering for the offer. I didn’t have any luck that day. Or the next. Or the next.
A few days later though, I received an email out of the blue from Amazon advising that I was now enrolled in Shop With Points. I tried re-registering for the 20% off deal and was finally successful.
Moral of the story? If at first you don’t succeed, delete, enroll and try and try again.
