At some point in recent weeks or months AARP Rewards increased the limit on the number of discounted gift cards you can buy for certain brands.
As a quick recap, AARP Rewards previously had a limit of 5 discounted gift cards per month (you can find gift cards here). There are now (at the time of publishing) four “Premium” gift card brands where you can buy a total of 25 cards per month:
- Airbnb
- Carnival
- Royal Caribbean
- Celebrity Cruises
That limit of 25 is the total number of cards you can buy for those brands each month. i.e. You can buy 25 cards all of the same brand or 20 cards for one brand and 5 of another, but you can’t buy 25 cards for one brand and then buy more cards for any of the other three brands. That’s not a huge issue because all four of these brands can be bought in $500 denominations (as well as some smaller denominations), so you could spend up to $12,500 per month on these brands.
That’s particularly useful if you want to stock up on cards due to an expensive Airbnb stay or cruise with one of the three cruise lines. The Airbnb gift cards are discounted by 5% (other than the $50 denomination which is discounted by 4%), while the cruise gift cards are all discounted by 10% which is a pretty good deal.
What’s even nicer about this limit of 25 cards is that it’s completely separate from the limit of 5 discounted “standard” gift cards. That means that if you buy a couple of Airbnb gift cards like I did this evening, you can still buy 5 other discounted gift cards from things like their weekday Daily Deals.
An increase for Uber would have been most welcome…
