Every month AARP Rewards releases a new set of discounted gift card deals and opportunities to redeem points for gift cards. There’s a limit of 5 discounted gift cards and 3 points redemptions for gift cards per month.
These deals generally aren’t worth taking advantage of for a couple of reasons:
- Discounted gift cards – AARP Rewards runs Daily Deals which provide even better discounts. These can be 25% off grocery store gift cards, 40% off Bass Pro Shops gift cards, etc. The limit of 5 discounted gift card deals per month includes those bought during Daily Deals, so in most cases it’s better to buy Daily Deals than it is from these monthly lists.
- Points redemptions – Redeeming AARP Rewards points for gift cards is poor value as you can get significantly better value when redeeming for Local Offers.
Having said that, it might make sense in some circumstances. For example, Daily Deals sometimes sell out quickly, so if you miss out on those, it’s nice to have these separate deals available at the end of the month.
Several of the deals are marked ‘Extra Credit’. For those, you have to perform additional tasks like watching videos and answering quizzes. While that’s a little inconvenient, the tasks also provide you with bonus points and each task normally only takes a couple of minutes to complete, so it might prove worthwhile unlocking those offers.
