Tips & Ideas
Earning 400 bonus miles just for signing up for SimplyMiles is a pretty good offer, although it’s a shame that this has to be done with an American Airlines Mastercard (all Citi and Barclays AA cards are Mastercards) seeing as ordinarily you don’t have to use an AA card with SimplyMiles. Seeing as this is part of AA’s AAdvantage program’s 40th birthday celebrations though, it’s understandable why they’ve added that additional requirement.
2x miles for existing users is also a pretty good offer, but note that with this offer you have to pay with an AA Mastercard too. For example, there’s a targeted offer for up to 1,000 bonus miles when spending $200 at Best Buy. That can be used to buy gift cards, so you’d earn up to 2,000 miles which is a return of 10x when spending exactly $200; that’s on top of the 200 miles you’d earn on your AA credit card.
You can also earn 1,000 miles when taking out a cheap AARP membership which can be useful for gift card deals from AARP Rewards, so that too would be doubled to 2,000.
