This offer has been around for a while but I apparently hadn’t taken advantage of it myself nor covered it here.
It sounds like it might be targeted, but I was able to register for it yesterday and then texted myself a $50 gift card. The $5 credit hasn’t shown up in my account yet, but it says that it can take 3 days for it to appear.
If you’re targeted, you should see a button to activate the offer:
It mentions the SMS2019 promo code, but if you’ve activated the offer then you don’t need to enter it when checking out. Check your total when checking out to make sure the promo has attached though – it should say ‘Text GiftCard Promo’ beneath the order total:
There’s a new Amazon Amex Offer that came out today, so this offer could be a good way to start earning 5x or 6x Membership Rewards towards the Amex Offer’s $375 limit. Alternatively, pay with a Discover It card using Amazon Pay for 5% cashback this quarter or a Bank of America Cash Rewards card for up to 9% back.
Update 11/25/19: I’ve just received my $5 credit and the email advises it expires February 6, 2020, although the date might be based on when you send the $50 gift card.
