Tips & Ideas
This is a superb deal if you’re targeted. The offer came via email with the subject line ‘Well deserved: You’ve got this offer from AARP’, but check your emails even if you have an email with a different subject line as there are always other deals in those emails and you might see AARP in there.
AARP Rewards runs a different gift card deal each day midweek, as well as other deals throughout the month which you need a membership for. You can get a 5 year membership for $45, so this would be a $21 moneymaker. There’s also sometimes an AARP Chase Offer giving $8 back when subscribing, so keep an eye out for that.
I got an AARP membership in my 30s as you can get some decent discounts and you don’t have to be 55+. There’s all kinds of benefits which I wrote about a year or two ago on Frequent Miler.

Is this for new members only or does it count for renewals?
Lots of DPs on DoC that portals generally work for renewals, but obviously YMMV as to any particular portal: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/swagbucks-mypoints-get-15-with-aarp-membership-signup-12-cost-1000-aa-miles/
Make sure that you go into account settings and turn off auto-renew. Otherwise you may only see 3- and 5-year membership options. But then choose auto-renew again on the checkout page to get the $12 price.
