Newegg has started offering EggPoints rewards when buying third party gift cards on the site.
I think this is something new in the last couple of days as I don’t remember seeing EggPoints listed before that. My last gift card order on Newegg was about three weeks ago and I don’t think I earned any EggPoints with that order, or none that were listed in the order confirmation anyway. My EggPoints balance is currently zero, but it would be another week before I’d see any in my account (see below as to why).
Here’s a little more information about how EggPoints work:
Earning EggPoints
You’ll earn 1 EggPoint per dollar spent sitewide, including on third party gift cards. It doesn’t look like you’ll earn them when purchasing Newegg gift cards, although I’m not 100% certain on that.
Value of EggPoints
100 EggPoints are worth $1, so the rewards are worth 1%. While that’s not amazing, it’s better than nothing at all, especially seeing as you previously didn’t earn any rewards when buying gift cards on Newegg.
EggPoints Availability
You have to wait 30 days after receiving the invoice for your order before EggPoints are awarded to your account. In my experience, you’ll receive the invoice the same day that you place an order, although it usually arrives several hours later.
Earned EggPoints are valid for 90 days after they become available in your account, after which they’ll expire. I doubt Newegg will send you an email reminder to use them, so it’s probably best to set your own reminder if you rarely place Newegg orders.
One of the nice features of how the rewards program is set up is that if you earn additional EggPoints before existing ones expire, those older points will have their expiry dates extended to 90 days again. I suspect that they’ll only be extended once the new points are available in your account, so you effectively only have 60 days in which to extend them due to the 30 day wait period for the new points; between 60 and 90 days after being awarded points, you’d therefore only have the choice of redeeming them or letting them expire.
Redeeming EggPoints
You can use redeem EggPoints when purchasing any products on Newegg. This includes third party gift cards, but excludes Newegg gift cards.
Final Thoughts
This is a great development as Newegg frequently sells discounted gift cards – find the latest deals here. Earning 1% on rewards on those discounted gift cards in addition to credit card rewards is a nice little bonus, especially seeing as EggPoints can then be redeemed for further gift cards.
