Tips & Ideas

The terms state that gift card purchases are excluded. However, it should be possible to buy a $200 Marriott gift card from the front desk in order to trigger the Amex Offer.

The bigger problem will be finding a property that knows how to sell you the gift cards. I struck out in Chicago and Oklahoma City last summer and fall with a similar promotion, so YMMV.

Needless to say, you can use the offer when paying for an actual stay, but buying a gift card is a way to lock in the 20% discount if you don’t have any Marriott stays in the next few months.

The link above is to the Amex Connect website. This Marriott Amex Offer is listed on there, so you should hopefully be able to add the offer to a card even if you weren’t specifically targeted. If possible, add it to a Marriott credit card in order to earn additional rewards on the transaction.
