Amtrak gift cards very rarely go on sale, so this is a great offer on those.
Update: I just remembered that Amtrak is available in the Slide app. That’ll therefore be a better option for many people if buying for personal use seeing as you can earn up to 12% cashback (6% via TopCashback and up to 6% from Slide itself).
You say 6% from TopCashback and 6% from Slide, but the fine print on TopCashback (for Slide) states that cashback is not eligible on prefunding the Slide balance … to me that suggests you can only get cash back from TopCashback if you forego prefunding (and the 1-2% prefunding bonus) in Slide. That would mean 6% from TopCashback and only 4% from Slide (regular cashback, no bonus). 10% total.
What that means is that you don’t earn 6% cashback when prefunding your account as well as 6% when using that balance to actually buy gift cards. i.e. If you prefund $1,000, you don’t earn 6% cashback on that action and then another 6% when you use that to buy gift cards in the app.
I can confirm after many transactions that you earn 1-2% from Slide when prefunding, 4% from Slide when buying gift cards and 6% from TopCashback, so up to 12%.
The only time prefunding doesn’t stack with 6% from TopCashback is for your very first Slide transaction. For that first transaction, it’s definitely best to not prefund in order to earn the 17% cashback.
