This isn’t a development I saw coming. Blackhawk Network has updated the eligible retailers on a number of Giving Good and Choice gift cards. I’ll be writing a separate post about those shortly, but wanted to highlight a particular interesting change – Best Buy is now an eligible brand on the Giving Good St Jude Children’s Research Hospital brand.
That’s notable because Best Buy is a high value gift card brand, although its resale rates haven’t been as high in recent months as they have been at times over the past couple of years. Still, Giving Good gift cards sometimes go on sale or earn bonus points at certain retailers, so this could be a great way to indirectly save on Best Buy gift cards.
That could be particularly useful if this version of the card gets carried at Staples and/or Office Depot/OfficeMax. Neither of those chains sell variable load Best Buy gift cards, so being able to buy these Giving Good St Jude Children’s Research Hospital gift cards and exchange for Best Buy would be a great way to earn 5%/5x on a Chase Ink Cash or Ink Plus card when Best Buy resale rates are high.
What I’m not sure about is if this version of the St Jude card will only be available online or if it’ll be available in-store too. Hopefully it’s the latter, but I’ve only just come across this new version of the card online and so haven’t been able to check availability in physical stores yet. Even if it will become available in-store too, it could take a little while for this new version to get rolled out.
