Tips & Ideas
It’s been a while since I looked at the redemption side of Just For U rewards, so I don’t know if this redemption option has been around for a while or if it’s relatively new.
I’m not sure of how this will work as the wording isn’t entirely clear. It says you’ll get $20 off Netflix gift cards when you spend $20. I don’t know if that means you can simply buy a $20 Netflix gift card and it’ll take $20 off or if you have to spend $20 on groceries in addition to the gift card. I suspect it’s the former, but let us know in the comments if that’s not the case. Update: Eddy has confirmed in the comments that it does indeed take $20 off the cost of a Netflix gift card – there’s no grocery purchase requirement.
While you can get the best value from Just For U rewards by redeeming points for gas savings, redeeming 10 rewards for a $20 Netflix gift card could still be useful. For example, if you bought a $500 Best Buy gift card you’d earn 1,000 points. Those can be redeemed for 10 rewards and thus a $20 Netflix gift card. That’s a 4% return (albeit a little less if you’ll be reselling the Netflix gift card too based on the resale value), which could make sense if you can also resell Best Buy at a decent rate right now.
Clip reward. Take $20-200 Netflix card to the register. Tell cashier to load $20. Insert customer number. Charge is $0. Go home and watch Netflix.
Great, thanks for confirming that’s how it works 🙂
It works that way sometimes. I’m 2/4 with it taking off $20 without buying groceries.
Would not work properly for me in Southern California. Manager tried ringing up (i) $20 on a variable card, (ii) $30 on a $30 fixed-value card, and (iii) $20 on a variable card plus $20 in groceries. Coupon would not apply to any of these alternatives. Manager finally had to do a manual override.
Is your Just For U account set to a different region? I’ve had similar issues with digital coupons in the past because I was trying to redeem rewards in a different state to the state set up on my account.
No, the J4U account was set to Southern California, and the coupon was clipped for SoCal. I am *very* familiar with this issue because I travel to other Safeway regions by car a few times a year to visit relatives. Based on my experience using J4U rewards while travelling, it actually does not matter which region your account is set to when you use the reward. The important bit is that the account must have been set to the region of intended use when you *clip* the reward.
