- Excludes bulk gift cards & e-gift cards, in-store purchases, layaway purchases, insurance services, auto services, pharmacy transactions, protection plans, and recurring subscription services (for example, Beauty Box and Baby Box).
- Purchases may fall outside of the offer period in some cases due to a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction (for example, the purchase date for online orders may be the shipping date).
- If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the additional points. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the additional Membership Rewards points if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it.

Tips & Ideas
With a limit of 2,500 bonus Membership Rewards, you’ll max out this offer when spending $500. That’s not a very high limit, but it’s still a nice return.
Amex is presumably offering this 5x bonus seeing as Walmart.com is a 5% category for the Discover It card this quarter, while both Walmart and Walmart.com are eligible for 5% on the Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cards.
In theory it should be possible to buy Walmart gift cards to trigger this offer. However, eGift card purchases are excluded and when Amex specifically lists an exclusion like that, it’s because the purchase will code differently to normal. To play safe, it’d therefore be better to buy a physical Walmart gift card if that’s the route you want to take with this.
This is a targeted offer and it looks like it might only be available on personal Platinum cards.
