3x points means you’ll earn 1,500 points for every $500 in Visa gift cards you buy. That’s 1,500 points per card which can be redeemed for at least $15 off groceries which more than offsets the activation fee.
The Stop & Shop weekly ad has an interesting limit listed which doesn’t appear in the Giant or Martin’s ads. It says that there’s a limit of one gift card rewards offer per household, but it’s not clear what this means. If it means you’ll only earn 3x on one Visa gift card, that sucks. Perhaps it’s a per transaction limit which would be a little annoying, but certainly not a deal killer. Otherwise, it might just mean that they only want you to do this offer on one household account.
