Tips & Ideas
This is a nice little deal, especially if you have several Citi cards seeing as you can enroll all your cards provided they’re eligible. Note that this is a statement credit offer, so on cards which earn points (e.g. Citi Premier, American Airlines, etc.) you’ll earn the standard number of points and a 5% statement credit rather than 5x points.
It’ll also stack with other offers. For example, the Citi Dividend card is offering 5% at Best Buy and online warehouse club purchases, so buying from those stores online should earn you a total of 10% back – a 5% statement credit and 5% in rewards.
Citi being Citi, their website sucks and you might get error messages when trying to log in. That happened in different browsers and in incognito mode for me, but I managed to log in and register in incognito mode using Chrome on my phone, so mobile might be the way to go if you’re having similar issues.
I’ll republish this post on November 24 once the offer has gone live.
One of the emails I received says
The merchant must tag your purchase as having been made online to earn the reward.
It should therefore be all online shopping provided Citi is able to identify it that way. Having said that, I’ve heard the AT&T cards can be a crapshoot when it comes to things being regarded as online purchases, so who knows. I imagine safe transactions would be things like Amazon, BestBuy.com, etc.
