The activation fees on these cards mean this isn’t an amazing deal, but if you can refuel with 13.5+ gallons then it can still be profitable (before liquidation fees). Pay with a card that earns more at grocery stores to make the deal even better.
FYI, I’ve experienced a couple of recent issues with Visa gift cards purchased at Kroger. Most of them have been fine, but one $100 card had its activation reversed at store level immediately (and obviously without my knowledge until I tried using it and it didn’t work). I’m still going around in circles with the local store and with corporate customer service trying to get a refund or at least a working gift card.
Since that incident a couple of weeks ago, I’ve gotten into the habit of checking the value of the card before I even leave Kroger’s parking lot, and one other has presented a problem where the printed CVV was not correct according to the website and toll-free number. Fortunately on that one, I was still able to use the physical card, but online purchases would’ve likely been impossible.
